State Senator Robert Nichols looks to boost the Texas trucking industry

Texas State Senator Robert Nichols toured Texas State Technical College this week. He wanted to learn more about the college’s Commercial Driver License Program in Marshall. Robert expressed that there is a critical shortage of truck drivers and bus drivers. He wants to help the program gain more funding and students.

Robert says he has 100 school districts and “every single one of them has a shortage of school bus drivers mainly because of the difficulty of getting their commercial driver’s license certificate.” Nichols is the chairman of the Transportation Committee and previously worked for the Texas Department of Transportation before becoming a state senator. He acknowledges the importance of the trucking industry as well as the challenges it faces.
