The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) is on the lookout for proactive members eager to shape policies that will enhance the trucking industry for the benefit of all professional drivers and their careers in the driver’s seat.

Until Dec. 31, OOIDA is accepting nominations for its Board of Directors. The election itself is scheduled for the fall of 2024, with the newly elected members taking their seats at the spring board meeting in 2025.

Members of OOIDA have the opportunity to nominate either themselves or another member who meets the eligibility criteria. To be eligible, a nominee must boast a minimum of five consecutive years of commercial truck driving experience and an equivalent period of active Association membership immediately preceding the nomination.

For those who meet these markers of eligibility, now is the perfect time to step up and contribute.

“It’s time for the young, strong voices of the newer generation to get their ideas out of the cab and into the board room,” said Bryan Spoon, secretary for OOIDA’s Board of Directors. “Learn the right and most meaningful ways to have measurable influence in the halls of statehouses and Congress.”

Here’s a look at some of the benefits of joining OOIDA’s Board of Directors:

Influence and Advocacy: Board members actively shape the direction and decisions of the organization. They have a platform to advocate for policies and initiatives aligned with truckers’ interests, fostering positive changes within the industry.

Networking Opportunities: Serving on the board opens doors to networking with influential figures in the trucking industry. This networking can prove beneficial both personally and professionally.

Leadership Experience: Board positions offer valuable leadership experience involving decision-making, strategic planning, and governance responsibilities that can elevate one’s skills and credibility in the industry.

Contributing to the Community: Board members play a pivotal role in shaping the Association’s initiatives and programs, contributing to the betterment of the community it serves.

Access to Information and Resources: Board members stay abreast of the latest information, industry updates, and resources, equipping them to advocate effectively for themselves and the drivers they represent.

“Overall, serving on the board of OOIDA can be a way to make a meaningful impact in the trucking industry, advocate for fellow drivers, and gain valuable experience and connections along the way,” Spoon said.
