How the Truck Driving Industry is Putting a Stop to Human Trafficking

Hand helping another up a mountain path.

The Trucking Cares Foundation (TCF) has generously donated $25,000 to Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT), a non-profit organization committed to both putting an end to human trafficking and finding ways that the truck driving industry can support that cause.

“Human trafficking is a horrifying crime that flourishes in the shadows, said TCF Chairman Phil Byrd. “Transportation professionals have a unique opportunity to illuminate every corner of every state, uncover these heinous crimes, rescue victims, and bring the perpetrators to justice. Truck drivers are inherently compassionate and vigilant. Truckers Against Trafficking leverages these qualities, enabling drivers to identify victims during their journeys across the nation’s highways. There are numerous inspiring accounts of heroic truckers utilizing their TAT training to rescue individuals who were being exploited. Through this donation, we take pride in supporting TAT’s life-saving mission.”

Human trafficking is a serious, widespread issue, present nationwide in all 50 states, with an estimated hundreds of thousands of victims in the United States alone.

TAT is dedicated to educating, equipping, and empowering members of the transportation industry in ways to combat human trafficking. The nonprofit regularly collaborates with law enforcement and other government agencies to support the investigation of human trafficking. This frequently leads to not only the rescue of victims but also the apprehension of perpetrators, getting us one step closer to winning the fight.

As of now, TAT has provided training to 1,631,820 transportation and law enforcement professionals.

“They (TCF) consistently demonstrate a genuine commitment to the fight against human trafficking,” said Esther Goetsch, TAT’s executive director. “By directing their resources toward expanding training across the American trucking industry, they are equipping drivers with the essential tools to make a positive impact in addressing one of the most significant human rights violations of our time. Just as truck drivers play an indispensable role in keeping America moving, they are equally crucial in this battle.”
